a gift in time

How does the noise of a city suddenly disappear just by seeing spring leaves lit-up by a street lamp?

.

.

As i write this, it is Sunday morning.  And Monday begins Week 16 of 2012.

.

I notice the days fly and begin to wonder what’s really important, even though i already know.

I can make a list of things that physically need to be done.  Things like cleaning, appointments, groceries.  But, i can’t make a list for things like, “take a picture of a tree at night, that has little white lights, with leaves lit-up in the green of spring.”  And there is no way to make a spiritual list, unless i could number one through infinity and continue to write “pay attention to God.”

The thing is, that the more i try to find ways for God to be a part of the things that i do, the farther i actually get away from from God being part of my life.  Because, the fact is, God is always with me, and i must be with Him in the present time. Which means that i must speak to God within the moments that i am living, and listen to God in the moments that He speaks to me.  There is no need for planning and list-making. There is no “trying to fit-God-into” what i do.  It is a relationship that unfolds in each moment.  You and i were given a gift of “relationship” with God, in Jesus.

Quote by Charles Caleb Colton:

Time is the most undefinable yet paradoxical of things;

the past is gone, the future is not come,

and the present becomes the past even while we attempt to define it,

and, like the flash of lightning, at once exists and expires.

.

Quote by Tennessee Williams:

Time is the longest distance between two places.

      {Charles Caleb Colton (1780–1832) was an English cleric, writer and collector, well known for his eccentricities.} he did have a way with words.
      thanks for taking the time to look closer at that photo. Flowers are just such beautiful and fleeting packages of petals.

      Mark Twain…

      I am grown old and my memory is not as active as it used to be.
      When I was younger I could remember anything, whether it had happened or not;
      but my faculties are decaying now and soon I shall be so I cannot remember any but the things that never happened.
      It is sad to go to pieces like this, but we all have to do it.

    I can be too much of a list and structure person. You’re right; some things can’t be listed and just checked off. I guess that would assume that I know everything that’s best, beforehand.

      I can easily get carried away with the list thing. Maybe i should think of a list more as a general reminder for a few immediate steps, and let it go at that.

    I like that quote by Colton. In Him we live and move and have our being. Hard to separate all that just as you have said.

      Acts, chapter 17

      “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

      28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’

      As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

      This relationship that we have online, speaking to one another with out being physically present, can be a tiny opening to experiencing the Spiritual connection. I think it takes a lot of trust and an wide-open heart to override our more physically natural way of relating. It’s like having a sense that is over the other five. A bit like a spiritual sense manager would be over five sense employees, perhaps for your view. It’s also odd to think that all believers are connected by our spirit by the Spirit…i mean, to sense it…more than to make sense of it, anyway. And thank you for enjoying the image of the lights with me.
